We can't talk about the expressions as mad as a Hatter without mentioning Lewis Carol and The Hatter, one of his main characters from the chapter 7 of Alice's adventures in Wonderland when Alice became a guest at a mad Tea-Party with the Hatter and the March Hare.
The original meaning of the expression was vague and unclear. But, generally, it has been known for years now that a mad Hatter represents a person who is always angry and sharply crazy.

Let's see some examples :
- Poor Samantha ! She is always as mad as a hatter.
- Oh my God ! This noise makes me as mad as a Hatter
It is too much intolerable.
